POTPOURRI

I haven't stamped in over a week what with one thing or the other.  Spent 4 hours in the ER last Friday morning-all kinds of tests to see if I was having a heart attack.  Thankfully, not!!  Gave me Zantac for my stomach which they think was the problem.  Had visitation, memorial and burial for one of DH's cousins and family dinner on Saturday and then  to my sister's on Sunday for Easter dinner.  Tuesday was the day I play cards/games with some friends and yesterday morning was Weigh In Day and then out of town for some van parts.  In between have been trying to get taxes completed-they went to the tax office this morning-what a relief!! 

Here are some cards I had made earlier and never uploaded--

The next card is called a Shaker card.  Shake it and the glitter down in the corner moves around. I was going to take this for my sister Easter Sunday but forgot!

NOW THIS IS PERSEVERANCE!

Last spring I dug some dwarf iris to move to a new location.  I put them in a plastic meat tray with just the dirt that was around their rhizomes. I put them by the garage door and never did get around to getting them in the ground.  I put them in our unheated garage over the winter and it was a cold one!  I noticed a few days ago they were green and growing.  Yesterday when I was in the garage I noticed they had a couple of buds and this morning they are in bloom!  Anything that wants to live that badly needs to be put in the ground-Soon.

HELLEBORE, HELLEBORUS, CHRISTMAS ROSE, LENTEN ROSE

 Photo of my Hellebore, Helleborus, Christmas Rose, Lenten Rose or maybe you know it by another name. It is loaded with blooms this year.  A google search shows several companies that  have some information about them and also sells them.  My daughter gave me a start from her plant and I do not know what variety I have-guess I will just call it Karen. It has self seeded over time and made a nice colony.  I am going to move part of it closer to the house.  It is now located in the back garden and you almost miss it if you don't do a regular walk around. I will be sure to wear gloves as the leaves has some sharp edges- it is not a favorite of deer! Hard to get a good photo as the flowers are hanging down now that they are mature.

SPRING BEAUTY

One of my favorite flowers to appear in the spring is Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis).  The bleeding heart above is an offshoot of my mothers.  I cherish it as she is no longer with us. I also have one of her columbines but haven't seen it yet this year and am wondering it the leaves smothered it out :>(

Everything else seems to be up and growing with tulips developing buds.  I haven't cut my clematis' back yet but it is on my to do list this week-lots of things on that list.  I need to take a photo of my hellebores-they were loaded with blooms this year.  Seems this is a good year for blooms; everything I have seen is loaded with flowers.  The forsythia, Bradford pears and some other early spring bloomers were just beautiful in town when we went to my sister's for Easter dinner.  Their magnolia and weeping cherry were just loaded with blooms and so beautiful.  Love this wonderful time of year.  God certainly knew what he was doing with so many natural and man made wonders for us to enjoy!

SPRING WILDFLOWER

Early spring wildflowers are beginning to make their welcome appearance.  I have a transplanted Dutchmen's Breeches blooming beside my dining room window.  If you will look close the flowers do somewhat resemble the puffy breeches of Dutch boys.  The foliage for this plant is the ferny looking leaves; the other foliage is columbine and hyacinth leaves. This photo is from last year as this year's bloom isn't fully opened yet.

My daughter and I took a backroads drive today looking to find what wildflowers are in bloom.  Not much in bloom as yet, but soon!!

Ecclesiastes 3:1

I made this card for SplitCoastStampers Color Challenge 263 to use colors: Pretty In Pink, Dusty Durango and Creamy Carmel. I used white as my neutral.  I stamped the image from Long-Time Friends on textured mat paper by K&Company using black Stazon ink.  I watercolored with DerWent watercolor pencils using a aquabrush.  The designer paper is Basic Grey Sugared and I used a Martha Stewart border punch on Creamy Carmel along the top.  The sentiment Ecclesiastes 3:1, is a sticker by EK Success from a package I bought at Wal-Mart.  The embossilet butterfly by Stampin Up' was given to me by my independent Stampin' Up demo in a 'goodie package' along with my last order. Thanks Patty!   I now want to order that embossilet die.

MY FAVORITE LUNCH

This is my favorite lunch to have when I am by myself.  Quick and Easy and I usually have the ingredients on hand.  A single serving pouch of tuna in water, cottage cheese, diced celery, tomato, onion and whatever else I have in the refrigerator, 5 wheat crackers and one ounce of medium cheddar cheese.  Add a sprinkling of black pepper and sometimes a little ranch dressing and enjoy. Now don't get the idea that I always eat at the bar (just when DH is home) with a placemat and cloth napkin.  I ate lunch today in front of the computer catching up on emails.

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING

Today, March 20, 2010 is the first day of Spring in our part of the world. Twice a year, around March 20 or 21 and September 22 or 23, the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night are nearly equal in all parts of the world. These two days are known as the March(vernal or spring in the northern hemisphere) equinox and the September equinox. These are my two favorite times of the year-Spring and Fall.  To honor Spring (although it is supposed to turn colder this afternoon with rain, sleet and snow after almost 70 degrees yesterday) here are a couple of cards I recently made.

Seems I have needed several Get Well and Sympathy cards lately and these will do for either occasion. Both are Challenge cards, the first for Color Challenge 262 to use Rich Razzleberry or Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive and Orchid Opulence.  The second card is for Featured Stamper 162.

UGLY CRITTERS

I belong to the American Hemerocallis Society (Daylilies) and we have a Daylily Email Robin.  Jane Mahan from NW Arkansas had an interesting post and link to a photo a few days ago.  Seems she was doing a walk-about in her garden and found the soil and some daylilies heaved several inches out of the ground.  On investigation this is what she found ina a nest about 12" below the surface.  Check out their front feet!

I had never seen baby moles that I remember.  Jane has a very nice photo album with photos from clouds to orchids and lots in between especially daylilies.  Check out her album here.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

This is a really cute St. Patrick's Day post-check it out.

Went to a birthday luncheon today for two of my game playing friends.  One was 84 today and the other one will be 70 on the 22nd.  Had a nice lunch and then played games this afternoon-always have a lot of fun so we have to play something that doesn't require too much concentration. Today we played Phase 10 and three of us was on the last phase but I didn't win as someone went out before me, but we are all good losers!

A FAIRY TALE

Today's F4A3 Free For All on SplitCoastStampers is Fairy Tales. We were to make a card based on a fairy tale.  I couldn't think of any stamps I had but happened to think of this paper after I read Anne's grandson's version of the Princess and the Pea on her blog.  http://www.inkinginred.blogspot.com/ So Thanks Anne, your blog post jogged my memory that I had this Sweet Little Pea dp from ProvoCraft. My card is to depict the reward of a happy marriage beween the prince and the princess. I cut the paper so little sweet pea could be my sentiment. Used a round and a round scalloped punch for one of the little pods and popped it up on dimensionals. The embossing along the side is made using a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  The card base is Stampin' Up Bashful Blue; my camera shot it a little on the green side.  Another baby card for my stash!  Here is the completed card:

CROCUS TIME

These pretty purple crocus  blooms were a welcome sight this morning when I looked out the back patio door.  I am not real sure how they survive.  They are around a maple tree with lots of tree roots for competition. Poppies, orange tiger lilies, hosta, columbine, Virginia bluebells are also around that tree!  In the 70's today but supposed to be back in the 50's tomorrow with rain.  DH has a doctor's appointment in Springfield and we were hoping the nice weather would hold. 

WELCOME BABY

My husband's great-nephew and wife had a new baby boy.  He was in Springfield Cox Hospital ICU for about a week due to lung problems but is home now and growing like a weed.  Had supper last night with the grand and great grandparents and they all think he is special-naturally. 

Here is a card I made for him-need to get a gift card from Wal-Mart and get it in the mail.

The base card is Georgia Pacific White cardstock layered with Stampin' Up So Saffron.  The designer paper is some I picked up at Michaels.  Used a star punch and square punches for the sentiment.  Also cut out one of the little ducks and glued on the panel.  Added saffron colored thread to the purple ribbon to keep it from being too "girly". 

NATURAL TERRARIUMS

We recently bought some property across the county road from us. No one has lived there for a long time and there are a lot of trash dumps. While scouting around one of my daughters found several bottles that had ferns and moss growing in them. She brought me these two green bottles. I think they are so neat! Will put them in the shade garden later on hoping they will live. The green foliage popping out of the ground will be Multi-Flowering Festival Hyacinths. Hopefully clicking on the photos will enlarge them.

JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Tulips and Virginia bluebells. They are poking their little heads out of the ground so it won't be long now and I am so ready!! What about you?

MASCULINE SYMPATHY

F4A1 Challenge to use Textures, Patterns and a color you don't use very often on your card.

My base card is Kraft and my texture is the faint Versamark Antique Cracking stamped on the Sahara Sand image panel and the distressing on the Not Quite Navy and Sahara Sand panels. Pattern is the plaid wallpaper sample which is also textured and the color I don't use much is Sahara Sand. I really like this collage stamp from INKADINKADOO I bought at Michaels. I stamped it using Not Quite Navy ink on the Sahara Sand cardstock; used scissors to distress the edges of the panels. It makes nice birthday or sympathy cards for a guy and I needed one to send today.

Patty, your mother sent Leon a neat birthday card and I need to find out the collage stamp she used-I really like 'collagey' type stamps. I want to welcome you, and my niece Dawn, to my blog-hope to stay up to date. Bev J.

COLOR THROWDOWN

This is my first card for the Color ThrowDown (click on title above for link to CTD Blog). Today CTD81 was to use brown, pink, white and Olive on our card.

My card is also for SCS Sketch Challenge 269 featuring a triangle.

Card base is Pink Pirouette. The triangle dp and rectangle panel are from Basic Grey. The rose image is from Anna Griffin and was stamped on GP White using Old Olive ink. I used a small brush and Pretty in Pink ink to color the roses. Sponged with Pretty in Pink and highlighted the roses with Martha Stewart Dandelion ink. I used a small hand held punch for the dots I put on the rectangle panel.

I enjoyed working with the colors and the sketch though I usually don't use this many layers!

PUNCHY SUNFLOWER

My card is for TLC261 (try a new technique) which today was to create a card using punches, die cuts, etc., and CAS55 (clean and simple) Redo; to redo a card you had created before. The above card I chose to redo and is the basis for my punchy card below. There are a few things left from the previous card but I changed several things: colors, added stem, leaf and bees. I added one die cut bee to cover a glue mistake-he looked lonely so I added another then remembered Julia telling us in WT257 Odds are...that odd items are usually more visually appealing that even items-so I added the third bee! If I could Redo again I would have the third bee coming from a greater distance to maybe help balance the top a little. Someone suggested I should have left a bee trail but it is done now!

I used Stampin' Up small oval punch for the petals in Summer Sun and leaf in Olive Green, large and small oval for the sentiment, SU scalloped punch and hand held circle punch for the center of the sunflower. The stem is a piece of Olive Green cardstock and the Cuttlebug die cut bees are cut from Imagine That designer paper.

MISSOURI WALTZ

The Limited Supplies Challenge 259 was not so much limited supplies but limited ideas. With President's Day this month our challenge was to make a card based on information about a president. My waltzing couple is to represent the song 'The Missouri Waltz' associated with President Harry S. Truman who was from Missouri.

The Missouri Waltz is Missouri's State Song and was played during President Harry Truman's presidential campaign. He didn't especially like the song and grew tired of hearing it played so often. Here is more on what he had to say and he always spoke his mind.

Coral Daisies

Our challenge on the SCS Limited Supplies (LSC260) Challenge was to use a border punch and ribbon on our card.

Stampin' Up Cameo Coral is used for my base card layered with kraft Cuttlebugged with the swiss dots embossing folder. Stamped Upsy Daisy on GP white with CC ink. I might have fudged a little by using paper ribbon and bow (love that Martha Stewart bow punch)-don't use fabric ribbon much anymore. I tend to do things in cycles so if I ever decide to use fabric ribbon I have a lot of it in my stash! I forget the name of the scalloped punch and see I also forgot to trim off the right side.

My card is based on a card I really liked but right now I have forgotten who it was. Thanks for the inspiration if you recognize your card with the changes.

ORANGE LOVE

The Ways To Use It Challenge over on Splitcoaststampers was to use the color orange on you card-some way-some where.

I don't have orange cardstock so I used SU Pumpkin Pie as my touch of orange. The flower background and sentiment is from a Lori Siebert cardmaking block 'Sweet Life'. The flower and leaves are punched using a Cuttlebug flower die and the stem is a sliver of Rose Red.

Have several cards to post I made during my "blog vacation" and since. Will hopefully get them uploaded in the next few days.

Daisies For Spring.......

The CAS54 Challenge (Clean and Simple) today was to make a spring card.

One of my favorite wildflowers is the oxy-eye daisy that blooms April and May here in SW Missouri. I bought these layered daisies by K&Company while at Wal-Mart this morning. They are double layered with glitter on the end of the petals, a dotted center and come on dimensionals. Stamped a swirl by Rhonna Farrer Swirls with Stampin' Up Certainly Celery ink on Georgia Pacific white; layered some of the daisies in three sizes. The sentiment is computer generated, punched with the round punch then layered on a CC scalloped circle. Scored a line at top and bottom of CC base card using my Fiskars cutter and wooden folder.

It has been a cold and wet winter and I am looking forward to SPRING!

I am back after an absence of a few months. Have been dealing with some health issues but am feeling more like my old self and am ready to stamp, take photos and look ahead to spring!!

We have been having a cold and wet winter. The photos above are some my daughter took of some snowy scenes. Enjoy!

FOR THE GUYS

I bought two stamps recently that are suitable for making cards to send to a man. The first one is a Time Collage stamp by InkaDinkaDo; I bought this stamp at Michaels.

I used Stampin' Up Creamy Caramel cardstock for my base. I made the background by stamping the SU Canvas background stamp using SU Creamy Caramel ink on Creamy Caramel cardstock. I then stamped the Time Collage stamp on the background using SU Chocolate Chip ink. I layered the image panel on SU Chocolate Chip cardstock panel after using the SU ticket punch on the corners. I then layered it on the CC base card using Scotch double sided tape. The sentiment is a stamp by Embossing Arts my daughter found for me at a flea market. The deer stamp I bought at Hobby Lobby; it is called 'gathering' by Penny Black. I like monotone cards like the one above so decided to do this one in blue! I probably should have switched the colors on the cards around; but blue deer are a novelty-right?

SU Almost Navy is my cardstock base. I used the SU Flannel Plaid background stamp with Almost Navy ink to stamp on SU Very Vanilla cardstock. The deer were stamped using Almost Navy ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock and the sentiment was stamped in Almost Navy. I added a couple of eyelets on the panel, threaded navy yarn through the eyelets and tied my small bow. I kept it clean and simple.

SEDUMS,SEDUMS and more SEDUMS

I love sedums in all their glory, whether it be just the foliage, when they first start to set on flowers and all the stages in between. I like to leave the flower heads on all winter for added interest when there is not much else going on. This variegated sedum was given to me by a friend and in moving beds around somehow I lost this one. Need to replace it as it is lovely.

Low sprawly grower is Sedum 'Vera Jameson'. Like the wonderful dark leaves.

This is Sedum 'Neon' and neon it is, a very pretty rose color which is striking. Love it, will be dividing it this fall when I redo the bed it is in.

Sedum 'Matrona' has a wonderful bloom and look at the beautiful reddish purple stems! A good one!
For some reason I posted two pics of 'Euphorbia Cyparissias' and haven't figured out how to delete one without deleting the whole post, so ignore the one below. :>)

This isn't really a sedum but a spurge, but makes me think of a sedum. It has attractive yellow gold blooms and is good on a slope or bank as it will cascade. Common names are: Cypress Spurge, Bonapart's Crown, Graveyard Moss, Poor Man's Evergreen (the common name I know it by). It can be invasive as it reseeds and spreads by rhizomes. It can very easily be pulled out from where it is a pest for you. You are cautioned to wear gloves as some people are allergic to the sap in the stems.
Sedum 'Frosty Morn' is one of my favorites. It has a white edging on the leaves. Sometimes will try to revert back to solid green. I pull out the green ones. Sedum 'Autumn Joy'. I have several of this one as they are easy to find and propagate easily. I love it for its foliage and when the flowers first appear in green, to white, to all shades of pink to rusty red and then the dried seedheads in winter. One of the best all around sedums, very popular and seen it most yards.

BIRTHDAY PANSIES

A friend in our Card/Craft group has a birthday this month so I will be taking her this card today. She likes anything purple so I used this basket of pansies, roses and lily of the valley. The base card is dark purple cardstock with sparkly designer paper as the next layer. The white cardstock was embossed on the left side using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. Used RoseArt markers, PrismaColor pencils blended with Gamsol and a white Souffle pen by Sakura to color the flowers and basket. The Happy Birthday is stamped with Violet ink. The two small flowers laying beneath the basket are embossed stickers from the Life's Journey package by K & Company. Added some highlights with a glitter pen. I think she will like it.
